Shieldbug

Not had much time for photography of late, which is a shame as there is so much to photograph!

This interesting creature is a Forest Shieldbug, which hitched a ride on the outside of my car. When we arrived home he flew off onto the wooden fence, against which he was quite well camouflaged. I only managed a few shots before he flew off again, with a surprisingly loud hum.

I was hoping for a Summer full of Turtle doves, but sightings have been few and far between. They are in real trouble, last years wet Summer meant a disastrous breeding season for them, and numbers are very low this year. A quick round up of this weeks photography, I’ve been trying out a new lens combination and I’m thoroughly impressed. What do you think? All of these were taken using Nikon’s 300mm f/2.8 G IF-ED VR and TC-17E II Teleconverter. It’s an extremely well balanced set up, much more manageable than my current Sigma 500mm…

What a beautiful day it was on Sunday! Decided to head for Strumpshaw again, but things were a bit quiet, although I did see my first ever Brambling. Then we visited Strumpshaw’s ‘sister’ reserve – Buckenham Marshes, which at this time of year is home to thousands of Wigeon, as well as geese. Wigeon are…

  • House Sparrow

Quick post before I head out with the camera. Here’s a House Sparrow I photographed yesterday in Drew’s parents garden. What an incredible sight it was – their garden was heaving with birds, constant activity at all the feeders and I counted 14 Blackbirds on the ground together, and I’m sure there were more than…

  • Swallowtails and a surprise

Phew, what a day! Headed out to the Broads to try and find some Swallowtail butterflies, we found several on the wing, but they didn’t settle, and I was surprised to find a lack of flowers. We decided to go back to Strumpshaw for the afternoon. The place was alive with Swallowtails! We must have…
