A Barn Owl!
Firstly my apologies for my lack of posting of late, I am still here, honest!
Not had any time to get out with the camera unfortunately, but I have just discovered that the pair of Barn Owls at my favourite local nature reserve – Redgrave and Lopham Fen – now have a webcam in their box!

The golden season. Hedgerows heavy with fruits lead me to the earthy scented forest. Fungi, like this Fly Agaric push through the dark, damp soil. A Jay flies overhead with a beak full of acorns, and a Squirrel scampers up a tree to watch me walk by. Away from the forest into the open parkland…

Ok, I admit it. Lizards. My favourite species to photograph. Don’t get me wrong, I love the hares and the barn owls too, but lizards, so full of character, so fascinating in their little macro world. It absorbs me, my attention, I could spend hours watching, yet to me feels like barely a few minutes….
The next animal we encountered was this beautiful Barn Owl. Her keeper brought her out and perched her in the evening sun and she posed for the cameras. I could have cloned out her jesses, but she is a captive bird, so I’m choosing to leave them in. The pair of wild Barn Owls down…
I’ve been visiting the Fen regularly and really getting to know the place and it’s wildlife. I was chuffed to photograph this Reed Bunting, who sat patiently in the reeds nearby as I set my camera up. (Click images to view larger)
