House Sparrow

Quick post before I head out with the camera. Here’s a House Sparrow I photographed yesterday in Drew’s parents garden. What an incredible sight it was – their garden was heaving with birds, constant activity at all the feeders and I counted 14 Blackbirds on the ground together, and I’m sure there were more than that too. It was a real treat to watch the Bullfinches, a favourite of mine.

My best shot from a brief photography session was this handsome male House Sparrow.

Now, I’m off into the garden to try for some snowy shots before it all melts!

It’s 7.30AM and it’s snowing heavily. I’m questioning my reasoning behind stepping outside with my camera this morning, but with my new found determination to do more photography this year, I know I have to. I’ve been watching the Barn Owl’s on the fen and I know they’ll be out hunting at this time of…

A beautiful morning on the Fen, what a relief to have some calm sunny weather! The first bird of the day was a Spotted Flycatcher near the visitors centre – a lovely little bird. A pair of Treecreepers were also hanging around. Walking out onto the fen, I saw the Little Grebe in his regular…

The tinkling bell like trill, the punk rocker hairstyle and attitude to match, it can only mean one thing – the Scandinavians are here! The Bohemian Waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus) is native to Northern Europe and during the winter may migrate southwards if the berry crop – the Waxwing’s main winter food source, runs low. This year…

  • Japan – Part 1

Japan. Wonderful, mysterious, so utterly different from my cosy corner of Norfolk. I have been extremely fortunate to visit this enigmatic country recently on a family holiday, a trip of a life-time. Naturally my camera came with me, and naturally, I had to investigate the local wildlife. I’ve a lot of photos, of course, so…
