British Wildlife Centre – Part IV

The next animal we encountered was this beautiful Barn Owl. Her keeper brought her out and perched her in the evening sun and she posed for the cameras. I could have cloned out her jesses, but she is a captive bird, so I’m choosing to leave them in.

The pair of wild Barn Owls down on the Fen are doing really well and now have four chicks. You can watch their progress via the webcam: http://ispyabarnowl.tumblr.com/

More owl photos are on the way – stay tuned!

It’s 7.30AM and it’s snowing heavily. I’m questioning my reasoning behind stepping outside with my camera this morning, but with my new found determination to do more photography this year, I know I have to. I’ve been watching the Barn Owl’s on the fen and I know they’ll be out hunting at this time of…

Festive and New Years greetings to you all! The holiday season has given me some time to update the galleries with some of my favourite images from 2011. Take a look at ‘Feather‘ and ‘Nature Close Up‘ . In 2012 I’ll be working on expanding the ‘Fur’ gallery, and I have plenty of other projects…

  • Back to the Fen

My first visit to the Fen in a long time, it was great to pick the camera up and get out again. The reedbeds are quiet now that the warblers have departed for somewhere warmer, and everywhere has a gentle autumnal glow. With little going on I pick out a Reedmace head to photograph, and…

  • Project Turtle Dove

As I write, it’s cold and dark and the rain is dripping down the window. The grey damp chill of a British winter is a far cry away from the heat of the savannah, which is where I imagine our Turtle doves are currently enjoying hours of hot sunshine every day. They are spending the…

  • House Sparrow

Quick post before I head out with the camera. Here’s a House Sparrow I photographed yesterday in Drew’s parents garden. What an incredible sight it was – their garden was heaving with birds, constant activity at all the feeders and I counted 14 Blackbirds on the ground together, and I’m sure there were more than…
