Holiday!

Got a week off next week, yippee! Am I going to some far-flung exotic location? Nope. Am I travelling across the country to the wilds of Scotland? Nope! Next week I’m keeping it local – I’m staying at home! Not very exciting? Well quite the opposite actually – I get to spend time in the locations that I know and love, and hopefully get some great shots!

I’ve got a lot planned for next week, including a few trips up to North Norfolk, one of my favourite places, and I’m also planning a few visits to some very local locations – my local nature reserve and even the footpaths around my home. So – watch this space for regular updates!  Now I’m just crossing my fingers for some decent weather….

What a beautiful day it was on Sunday! Decided to head for Strumpshaw again, but things were a bit quiet, although I did see my first ever Brambling. Then we visited Strumpshaw’s ‘sister’ reserve – Buckenham Marshes, which at this time of year is home to thousands of Wigeon, as well as geese. Wigeon are…

Had the day off work today, so of course I headed over to the Fen, hoping to try photographing the Redwing again. Unfortunately it looks like they have moved on. Lots of birds around today though, all quite vocal in the mild temperature especially the Great tits. Saw a Shelduck at the far end, and…

Encouraged by my ‘Big Garden Birdwatch’ results, I decided to have a go at photographing the garden birds today. I wasn’t sure how they’d react, as I haven’t worked with them since last Summer. However, within minutes of setting up, the Blue and Great tits came down and happily used the perch straight away. The…

Well, not had very much time for photography of late due to work, but I’ve been trying to fit it in where I can. The last few evenings I’ve spent some time at the local rabbit warren, not too far from home. It’s a great location to take advantage of the evening light, but I’m…

  • Nearly but not quite

Someone very wise once said insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. It’s true, and that’s what we do as wildlife photographers. We visit the same spot again and again, hoping for that one moment when it all comes together. The light, the subject – we wait…
